1. Make Sure That There Is Enough Water In The Reservoir
If you have a Keurig brewer, make sure that there is enough water in the reservoir. If there is not enough water in the reservoir, the machine may display a “descale light” and stop brewing altogether. Additionally, if there is not enough water in the reservoir, keurig may not be able to brew at all. To fix this issue:
- Open your Keurig and locate the front handle
- Lift up on the front handle until it clicks into place (This will release pressure from underneath)
- Insert a standard sized household plumbing snake into one of the two reservoirs located inside of your Keurig; this will allow you to see if there is any debris or sediment blocking either Reservoir from holding sufficient water.
If so, please follow these instructions to clear obstructions: http://www.keurigsource.com/manuals/technology-repair-and-maintenance/descaling/#clearing-obstructions.
NOTE: Do NOT use boiling water or harsh chemicals as they could damage your machine! If after following steps 1 & 2 still do not resolve an issue with insufficient water within your brewer’s reservoirs, please contact customer service for assistance at 877-722-6827 option 4.
2. Insert A Single K-Cup Into The Descaling Chamber
If the light is on, but the machine won’t brew, try inserting a single K-Cup into the descaling chamber. If that doesn’t work, check to make sure there’s water in the reservoir and that it’s turned on If all of those things are OK, then you may need to replace the K-Cup receptacle.
3. Press The “Brew” Button On Your Keurig Machine
If you have a Keurig machine, it’s probably been descaled at some point. But if the light on your machine says “descale,” and nothing seems to be working, there may be an issue. Here are three tips for fixing the problem:
- Make sure all of the water tanks are full before pressing the “brew” button
- If one or more of the water tanks is not empty, descaling may not work
- Empty one or more of the water tanks and try descaling again
- Wait for five minutes while the machine does its job
When the keurig descale light comes on, it usually means one of two things:
- There is a blockage in the water path and you will need to descale the machine; or
- The machine is not properly assembled and needs to be fixed The first step in fixing this issue is checking to see if there is any water left in the tank.
If there isn’t enough water, then you will need to descale the machine. If there is still some water remaining in the tank, wait five minutes while the machine does its job. Once it’s done brewing, your coffee should be ready!
